It’s not all bad news. But it’s not good.
My mom lives with us in the lower level of our house. She came home today to blood. She couldn’t find the source and I told her to take Sam to the vet and drop him off. His incision (from almost 2 months ago) has not yet healed completely and has opened in a couple places. The vet couldn’t find any other blood source and thought perhaps there had been a small pocket that had opened and caused the bleeding. And there’s a nodule. Yes. A bump. Yes.That. Kind. of. nodule.
F*You cancer
We brought Sam home and while eating, noticed that there was blood in his bowl after every bite. More blood. This time I found the source. His nose. He’s bleeding from his nose. Pretty lightly…Lightly enough that every time there’s a little bit that comes out, he licks it clean. The blood? I think it was nose-related and not suture.
We’re home now, by the time we got back from the vet it was too late to go back again.
He seems to be happy and not painful, but I’m a little fearful that this.is.it. The beginning of the end. or, if the tumor was the beginning of the end. this? this would be the last. the last of the end. the part where I get sad. and say goodbye.
I said it wasn’t all bad news. The good news is that I have Sam for another night. And I can snuggle up with him and give him puppy kisses and tell him I love him.
Hi there. We had a similar experience with one of our dogs once (the bloody nose, not the cancer). Have you checked his gums? Please make sure they are nice and pink. If they are pale and gray, get him to your vet ASAP!! When our boy Shadow had a bloody nose, we learned the hard way that he was hemorrhaging and his platelets were extremely low! So, do me a personal favor and check Sam’s gums. Hopefully they are a nice healthy color! If everything looks good there, I would give your vet a call anyway. See if they can figure out why Sam might be bleeding from the nose. Whatever the answer is, I hope this is just a small bump in the road for Sam, and that he feels better really soon!!
Yup. Nice and pink. I’ve been watching to make sure. Thanks for the 411 though!!!
WHOA!!! HOLD UP!!!!! We’ve gotta’ back this crazy “wild thinking the worse” train back up and cut off the engine!!!
Sam feels great! He’s eating, drinking and feeling fine!!!
Nose bleeds can be caused by a gazillion things…right now allergies are causing havoc…any infections! Geez, can’t remember who it was but someone just posted concerns about her dog with the same sympton…was worried sicjpk…and it was allergy related!
Nodule? Where was that locatedz? And yet again, that could be sooooo many things. To me, if anything was worrisome at all…it would be that the incision.p is opening up….not the nose bleed or the bump.
This journey can make you absolutely crazy with worry. Every little hiccup, burp throws us into a panic and our minds immediately race ahead to the scariest places possible!! It’s just another way that stupid piece of crap disease tries.to take us out of the moment, tries to rob us of our time together with our dogs and cats by making us worry. Don’t let it!
Yes, yu are with your Sam and he has NO intention of going anywhere anytime soon!!
You give him a great big hug for us…and save ine for yourself…and know that all.is well In Sam’s.world…and that’s all that matters!

You’re right. Crazy train. Lots of bleeding still. Low platelets. Clear chest X-rays.

Good, pink gums! That is a good sign. Same thing for Ty, when his platelets were low, white gums. And an appetite, that has to be good. No pain, that is good. When your are a dog, there are 3 good things, no pain, good food and lots of loving. Life sounds pretty good for Sam right now! Now us as humans, we have the worry gene built into us. I would definately give your vet a call today. Hang in there and keep us posted. Hugs from, Lori and Ty
I’m so sorry to hear this, I know I would be going batty if this happened to us! How is he today? Did it stop at all?
Try not to panic. I know, easier said than done. But until you know what you’re dealing with, and have a biopsy done or other diagnostic tests to confirm whatever it is, focus on that thought; he is here with you now, enjoying every minute with his pawesome pack!
Keep us posted and let us know if we can do anything to ease your fears OK?
